Commissioned by her original owner, a Glasgow-based industrialist, NAN of GARE was from the boards of the Sparkman and Stephens design office with Olin Stephens personally personal involvement. She was built in the famous McGruer of Clynder yard, designers and builder of many of the other Cruiser Racer 8’s built at the time.
While her lines and appearance differ from the other McGruer’s built CR8’s she is built to the same high standards with the same attention to detail; still evident today. With a focus very much on maintaining comfort while delivering a rewarding performance under sail NAN of GARE features a composite construction with galvanised steel and timber framing. On deck in place of solid timber fittings and plinths found on other CR8’s she sports high-quality stainless steel fittings all bespoke fabrications for this very special CR8. Below decks comfortable accommodation in a traditional style with an attention to detail evident throughout offering 6 berths in total with a sizable dedicated heads compartment.
In the current family ownership since 1990, only her second owners since her launch NAN of GARE is a unique piece of maritime history. Annually wintered ashore under her custom cover she has been fastidiously maintained and sympathetically upgraded throughout the current ownership. Fantastically well presented and part of the family she is reluctantly offered for sale with a comprehensive inventory, highlights of which include
Purchased by her next custodian following a virtual viewing in lock down NAN OF GARE is now patiently awaiting the arrival of her new skipper before making passage south to her new home waters of the Solent. We are sure she will be turning heads this summer at the various classic regattas in the South. We wish her new owner the very best of luck with this lovely old lady.
