OWNER’S COMMENT:

Pellegrina was the first of 4 Dee 27 yachts to come out of Allansons wooden boat yard near Preston, Lancashire. Built in 1961, she was designed by Peter Brett as a development of the successful smaller Dee 25 which had proved themselves over the previous 10 years. In subsequent years Peter Brett kept many of the features of the Dee class in the design of the popular Rival class. Pellegrina was commissioned for Mr and Mrs Tomlinson who had successfully raced their Dee 25 Rodinella including a win in the 1965 Channel race when very few boats completed the course due to stormy weather. The sea-keeping qualities the Dee class were applauded by Adlard Coles in his classic book Heavy Weather Sailing.

With only three owners since new Pellegrina has been carefully maintained and sympathetically upgraded whilst keeping her original character. Her varnished topsides were featured in adverts for Spinnaker varnish in the 1970s and her appearance regularly draws attention from fellow boat owners. She has cruised extensively around Ireland, Northern France, Northwest England and whilst in current ownership for 15 years around the West Coast of Scotland where she is now based, with many passages around the Hebrides and Orkney Islands. She is easily crewed by two or single handed but has comfortable accommodation for 4-5 as necessary.
